If you live anywhere near San Francisco, I highly highly recommend visiting — and getting involved with! — Garden for the Environment. I was part of their intensive Get Up! program a few years ago and learned so much; seriously, it was incred. Also incred: Everyone took turns bringing homemade meals for lunchtime potlucks every Saturday. I was inspired to collect all the recipes into a little zine. Yum.
