GARDEN
FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
If you live anywhere near San Francisco, I highly highly highly highly recommend visiting — and getting involved with! — Garden for the Environment. I was part of their intensive Get Up! program in 2019 and not only learned so much, it very truly literally seriously no joke changed my life. In the years since, I have started a garden club for kids at a free after-school and summer program at the Tenderloin rec center; I do regular garden maintenance with Carey Craddock; I took an amazing plant ID course at CCSF, and now know the botanical names (and common names, family names, types, origins, light and water requirements) for over 150 common Bay Area plants; and am connected with a freaking great community of freaking wonderful people. I’ve also had the pleasure of doing a few creative projects with / for GFE, which has been a real joy.
